8th January

​

We corrected the homework: ex. d (pp. 34-35), ex. b (p. 36) and Reading task from photocopy on UK driving laws. We talked about can, could and be able to. We talked about things we hadn't been able to do.  Later, in groups, we had to find people in the class that would like to be, were able to do, will be able to do, etc. different things to practise these verbs and expressions.  Finally, we did 6 Listening and Speaking on tips about learning English (p. 37).

Homework: Grammar Bank 4A (ex. a and b, p. 138).

10th January

​

We corrected the homework: Grammar Bank 4A (ex. a and b, p. 138). Then we practised the structure "be able to"  by doing 3 Speaking on p. 35 in pairs. Then we talked about reflexive pronouns and did ex. e on p. 37. Later we talked about the new structure of Prueba de Certificación and the new marking system (you can find this information on Course description (evaluation) above). There will be a new part: mediation, which consists of transmitting information from a text, usually in Spanish, to someone that doesn't speak it. We talked about how to do this task successfully and I gave one example of it: we worked on finding the main points from the text to summarise it well and, at home, you will have to do the final writing task (deadline 22nd January). Finally, we talked about mobile phones: 1 Vocabulary and Speaking (p. 38).

Homework: Do 2 Grammar (ex. a and b on p. 38-39) and then watch the video about expressiing obligation, necessity and advice that you will find in the grammar presentation section above.

15th January

​

We corrected the homework: 2 Grammar (ex. a and b on p. 38-39) and talked about what we found annoying about how people use mobile phones. Later we did 3 pronunciation and speaking: ex. a, b and d, in pairs. Later, in groups we talked about class etiquette and wrote our rules for the class. Then we played a board game in which we had to answer questions that included modal verbs related to obligation, advice and necessity. In class 16:00-18:30 we watched a video about commuting from another country to practise Listening Comprehension (you can watch it again on the homepage).

Homework: Grammar Bank 4B: ex. a and b (p. 139).

17th January

​

We corrected the homework: Grammar Bank 4B: ex. a and b (p. 139). Then we talked about manners and different ways to behave in social contexts across cultures. We did 5 Listening and then, in groups, 6 Speaking on p. 41. We talked about the problems we had with the stories we wrote (you can check this again on the writing section above). Finally, we talked about the electronic devices we have and did 1 Grammar on p. 88, in pairs.

Homework: Write the email (mediation activity based on the photocopy we discussed in class, 150-170 words) and Grammar Bank 9B (ex. a and b).

22nd January

​

We corrected the homework:  Grammar Bank 9B (ex. a and b).  Then we practised quantifiers, by doing a task in pairs where we had to ask questions about different things, especially technology. Later we did 2 Pronunciation on p. 88 and 4 Vocabulary and Pronunciation on p. 90.. Then we watched a video: is TV bad from my kids? from the BBC and completed some sentences about it. (you can watch it again on the homepage. Finally, in groups, we talked about different issues related to social networks.

Homework: exercises from photocopy on modal verbs of obligation and quantifiers.

24th January

​

We corrected the homeworkexercises from photocopy on modal verbs of obligation and quantifiers. Then we did 1 Reading and Speaking in pairs on stereotypes about men and women on p. 28. We also did 4 speaking on p. 29 and talked a bit about articles: we did ex. a from 2 Grammar. Finally, we watch the videos from a difficult celebrity: parts 1 and two and talked about expressions and words to give opinions.

Homework: Grammar Bank 3B (ex. a and b, p. 137), watch the video on the use of articles in English that you can find on the grammar presentations section on this website and Reading task: photocopy on modern manners.

29th January

​

We corrected the homework Grammar Bank 3B (ex. a and b, p. 137), and Reading task: photocopy on modern manners. Then we practised the use of articles by playing a board game in groups and by filling in the lyrics of the song "Sk8er boy" by Avril Lavigne (whose video you can watch again on the homepage). We watched a video on men and women stereotypes and completed some sentences about it, which you can watch again on the homepage. Finally, we did 6 speaking: ex. and b, in groups.

Homework: Vocabulary Bank: dependent prepositions on p. 156 and reading task on holiday etiquette tips.

 31st January

​

We corrected the homeworkVocabulary Bank: dependent prepositions on p. 156 and reading task on holiday etiquette tips. Then we did 7 Vocabulary and practised articles and generalisations by talking about different statements in groups.  Later we talked about the mediation task on a Spanish course you did a week ago (you can check it again in the writing section above. Fina:lly, we listened to a couple of audios, about the news and sports to practise for the mock exam on Tuesday. In group 18:30-21:00 we also watched a video on dream commuters you can watch again on the homepage.

Homework: For next Thursday 7th February (the mock exam is on Tuesday): all exercises from p. 42 and Vocabulary Bank: Relationships on p. 158.
