2nd October

 

We corrected the homework: Writing: a description of a person: ex. a, b, c and d (p. 113) and talked about the structure of informal emails. Then we talked about the problems and mistakes in the writing we did on the first day (you can look at this document in the writing section at the top). Then we did 2 Grammar on p. 9 and talked about the use of future forms (you can check the power point presentation in the grammar presentation section at the top). Finally we did an activity in pairs in which we had to ask questions about a person we knew and we had to guess who this person was to us. We started the activities in small groups to practise speaking.

Homework: Grammar Bank 1B: ex. a and b, p. 133.

4th October

​

We corrected the homework: Grammar Bank 1B: ex. a and b, p. 133. Then we did an activity in which we had to ask the other people in the class questions using these future forms. Then we did 5 Reading (p. 10) in pairs, one read the first text, the other one the second and then they told each other about them. We also did the vocabulary section (ex. d). Later we practised the vocabulary about personality by doing a crossword in pairs: we had to ask for a definition of the word we didn't have in the crossword. Finally, we listened to the song: "We are family" by the Sister Sledge (which you can watch again on the blog, homepage of this site) and did an activity about it.

No classes next week. Classes restart on Tuesday 16th October.

Homework: Writing: write an email message to a friend recommending a friend of yours to be their flatmate, following the structure of the message on p. 113 (120-150 words), exercises from photocopy on future tenses and Grammar Bank: Food and cooking (p. 152).

16th October

​

We corrected the exercises from photocopy on future tenses (homework), then we did ex c. (p. 9) to practise them. Later we practised pronunciation 7 of adjectives (p. 11) and talked about the importance of the position in the family: we did 8 listening and speaking and a couple of listening activities about the recording. Finally we talked about food, we did 1 Vocabulary on p. 4.

Homework. 4 Reading: ex. d and e on p. 5 and if you haven't done it yet: Vocabulary Bank: food and cooking (p. 152).

18th October

​

We corrected the homework 4 Reading: ex. d and e on p. 5 and Vocabulary Bank: food and cooking (p. 152). then we practised pronunciation: we did 2 Pronunciation on p.4. Later we did 3 Listening and Speaking on p.4 and,in pairs, we talked about food and cooking. Finally, also in pairs, we talked about what we knew about British and American food and watched a video about British food, answering some questions about it (you can watch it again on the blog section or homepage of this website).

Homework: Watch the video on the differences between the present simple and the present continuous and/or the power point presentation you find at the top: Grammar presentations (we are going to practise these tenses in the next class, so please do it) and photocopy on how to write a recipe.

23rd October

​

We talked about restaurants and eating out in pairs: we did 5 Listening and speaking on p. 6. Then we did 6 Grammar on p. 7 about the differences between the present simple and the present continuous. To practise it, we did one activity in which we had to ask each other questions using these tenses and then another one in which we had to ask 12 questions that we had to answer using the present simple third person singular to remember to use the -s

Homework: Grammar Bank 1A (ex. a and b, p. 132) and do the photocopy on the recipe if you haven't done it yet.

25th October

​

First we corrected the homework: Grammar Bank 1A (ex. a and b, p. 132) and the photocopy on the recipe. Then in groups, to practise this vocabulary we wrote a recipe of a Spanish traditional dish: you have to upload it on the padlet you found on the entry: Masterchef UK on this blog. Later we chose our class representative (delegados) and watched the beginning of a documentary film: Super Size Me, on fast food and McDonalds (you can watch it on the blog). Finally, in pairs, we talked about healthy diets and lifestyles. 

​

30th October

​

We corrected the homework: exercises from photocopy on the present simple and continuous and Reading task: gap filling. then to practise the differences between present simple and present continuous, we did a roleplay in which we had to talk to the other people in the class at a party, we all had a different personality with different information on a card. We had to talk and meet them, at the end we had to remember what they were doing, what they did, etc. Later we did Practical English: meeting the parents: we did sections 1 and 2 on pp. 12 and 13. Finally, in pairs we had to react to what our classmate said: Communication, pp. 104,109.

Homework: Vocabulary Bank. money on p. 154 and 6 Reading and Speaking: ex. b, c, e and f on p. 17.
